The Cabinet has given the green light for the launch of the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Project, a major government initiative aimed at creating employment opportunities for young people.
Set to roll out in August, the programme will be implemented in partnership with the World Bank and targets reaching 820,000 vulnerable and unemployed youth, including those living with disabilities.
In a statement released Tuesday, the Cabinet said the NYOTA Project will focus on improving employability, recognizing existing skills, and expanding access to decent jobs. The program will offer a range of support, including paid on-the-job training, entrepreneurship assistance, and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) certification.
According to government sources, the project has already drawn significant interest, with over one million applications received so far.
“The ongoing call for the on-the-job experience programme targets 90,000 youth for three to six months paid placements with employers, with monthly stipends of Ksh.6,000 deposited into Haba Haba savings accounts,” read the dispatch in part.
Applications started from July 11, running up to August 15, 2025.
