Nigerian Road Safety Expert Speaks During UN SoFT

Simon Obi, the Founder of the GreenLight Initiative, a Road Safety Advocacy organisation in Nigeria, has spoken at the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, UN Submit of the Future, SoFT, making it the second time he will be speaking at the high powered event, highlighting the impact of the Global involvement of Youth in Road Safety, emphasizing on the need for safe and sustainable mobility.

Obi stated that SoFT marks a great moment in accelerating Agenda 2030 – a significant milestone in advancing conversations toward a just and sustainable future, with the aim to produce an inter-governmental negotiated, action-oriented Pact for the Future.

In addition SoFT will enhance achievement of key chapters for sustainable development; financing for development, international peace and security. Science, technology, and innovation. Digital cooperation, youth and future generations and transforming global governance, he added.

He said, “I’m excited to have attended the UN Summit of the Future (SoFT) in New York, SoFT, saying, “My participation began with a panel session on September 19, where we discussed ‘The Path to a Sustainable Future’, with a focus on youth leadership. I seized the moment to discuss our work through the Global Youth Coalition for Road Safety and the need to prioritize safe and sustainable mobility. The event was organized by the Center for Community Impact and Sustainability and the Institute of Public Policy, Diplomacy, and Research in New York.”

Obi expressed his excitement in participating in his second panel session during the Mandela Washington Fellowship Alumni Association, MWFAAN and Pratt Institute event held on the sidelines of the UN Summit of the Future in New York.

“It was my honor to have shared the stage with a Nigerian Minister and other top level government officials, discussing the critical topic of collaborations and partnerships in achieving the Pact of the future.

“I had the opportunity to share our work, highlighting how partnerships have been instrumental in advancing our mission for safe and sustainable mobility.” He said.

The UN Summit of the Future Pact was adopted by member states. The pact provides a road map for a just, prosperous, and a sustainable future for all.

“According to Philemon Yang, the president of the General Assembly, “the UN Pact of the Summit of the Future represents the pledge to address immediate crises and lay the foundations for sustainable, just and peaceful global order for all peoples and nations.

“Collaborations are key to achieving the Pact as well as creating lasting impact. It takes courage, trust, and sincerity to collaborate. I look forward to continuing in our collaboration efforts to drive positive change and make our community just and sustainable.” Yang said.

Obi also expressed his gratitude for the learnings, insights shared, and the connections made at the all important global event.
