With the success of Kunle Afolayan’s 2022 film “Anikulapo,” Netflix greenlit the production of the series “Anikulapo: Rise of the Sceptre,” which was well received by Nigerians and those in the diaspora. The acceptance and demand for more of the TV series has led to the production of season 2.
Determined to continue giving the audience his best with his storytelling and ability to cast the right actors for specific roles, Kunle Afolayan has renewed his contract with Netflix by going harder with season 2 of “Anikulapo: Rise of the Sceptre.”
To make the new season more exciting, the film director has added new actors to join in what could be described as one of the best Nollywood series on Netflix and in Nigeria.
Some of the new cast joining season 2 of the series are Saidi Balogun, KieKie, Adebowale Adebayo, Antar Laniyan, Joke Muyiwa, Pedro Teixeira, Oyewole Abija, Shushu Abubakar, Salami Rotimi, Jide Awobona, and more.
Kunle Afolayan has promised that the new season will be filmed in Nigeria (Oyo State) and Ghana, and it will focus on Nigerian history and culture, including the slave trade while maintaining its original plot.
“We take pride in telling our stories authentically, and this series is a powerful reflection of Nigerian culture and history. This season will explore the complex realities of the slave trade, with actors from Portugal, Ghana, and Nigeria showing the global connections in our history. Filming in Oyo state and Ghana helped us ground the story in places rich with our heritage. We’re excited to continue sharing this journey with the world and celebrating the depth of our culture,” Kunle Afolayan wrote.
