Champions Trophy 2025: Following Pakistan ‘s early exit from the Champions Trophy 2025, former Head Coach of the Men in Green, Jason Gillespie, lashed out at the PCB and Aaqib Javed, who’s the current interim coach of the men’s side, calling him a ‘clown’. The Men in Green showcased a poor performance in the 15-match tournament, failing to clinch a single win and being the first side to get knocked out in the ICC event.

Pakistan’s Poor Run In CT 2025

The Mohammad Rizwan -led side conceded two consecutive defeats in the ICC tournament against New Zealand and India. Their final game against Bangladesh was washed out due to continuous rain in Rawalpindi. In their opening match of the tournament, the Men in Green suffered a 60-run defeat against the Kiwis. On the other hand, in the high-voltage clash of the tournament, Pakistan was outplayed by their arch-rivals India, suffering a 6-wicket defeat.

In recent times, Pakistan’s team management have seen constant changes. Before the start of the Champions Trophy 2025, Jason Gillespie left the role of Pakistan’s red-ball head coach. Former South African cricketer Gary Kirsten had also resigned as their ODI and T20I head coach. Following that, Aaqib Javed was brought in as Pakistan’s new white-ball interim head coach. Javed’s role came under the scanner after Men in Green’s early exit in the Champions Trophy 2025, which gained a lot of criticism.

After Pakistan’s run in the CT 2025 came to an end, Javed blamed the inconsistency in the side for their poor performance in the tournament.

“We have changed nearly 16 coaches and 26 selectors in the last two years or so. You put that formula on any team in the world, I think they will also be in the same situation. Until you get consistency right from the top down to the bottom, from the chairman down, then your team will not progress,” Javed said at the post-match press conference after Men in Green’s game against Bangladesh.

Javed’s comments gained Gillespie’s straight attention, and later, the former Pakistan head coach put out a statement on his official Instagram account stating that the interim coach was undermining him and Kirsten.

“This is hilarious. Aaqib was clearly undermining Gary and I behind the scenes campaigning to be the coach in all formats. He is a clown,” Gillespie wrote on his Instagram story.
