Dev Anand was madly in love with ‘gorgeous’ Lata Mangeshkar! Evergreen star refused to refer to her ‘sister’
Legendary Indian playback singer Lata Mangeshkar is revered as the ‘Queen of Melody’ and ‘Nightingale of India’. Throughout her illustrious career spanning over eight decades, she has recorded over 24,000 songs in 36 languages. She has several timeless classics to her name which have remained a source of love, comfort, and inspiration for generations. But, did you know Evergreen Star Dev Anand, also called the iconic symbol of love, was madly in love with Lata Mangeshkar, who was also respectfully addressed as ‘Didi’ by many?
Though it sounds surprising, Dev Anand himself opened up about his love for Lata Mangeshkar.
During an interview with Rediff’s Subhash K. Jha, Dev Anand revealed that Lata Mangeshkar was not just a close colleague but the ‘love of his life.’ He also said that she was ‘gorgeous’ and refused to call her sister.
During the candid conversation, Dev Anand said, “Who would want to call this enchanting woman his sister! She is the gorgeous Lata, the love of my life.”
Further, calling her irreplaceable, he said that Lata was the only person for whom he would stop shooting.
On the other hand, the legendary singer was also very fond of the legendary actor. Speaking about Dev Anand, Lata had once said, “It’s not just the songs that we did together, memorable as they were for us and for the listeners. It was the man that Devsaab was. So handsome in looks and in his deeds. I worked with him for decades.”
Lata and Dev had created some of the most iconic songs in Bollywood history.
Notably, Dev Anand married actress Kalpana Kartik in 1954. They fell in love on the sets of Nili. They had two children Suneil Anand and Devina Anand. The legendary actor passed away due to a heart attack on December 4, 2011 in London, UK. He was 88. On the other hand, Lata Mangeshkar remained unmarried throughout her life. Despite she received numerous marriage proposals, she decided to dedicate her life to music and family. She passed away on February 9, 2022. She was 92.
