The city declared Friday “Green and White Day” to celebrate the 60th annual Labour Day Classic, where Saskatchewan hosts Winnipeg in a matchup the Riders lead 38-21 in the last 59 years.

The flag also celebrates the fact that Saskatoon will host the Roughriders for a pre-season game in May 2026 for the first time since the early 1990s.

“The Roughriders may play their home games in Regina, but they belong to all of Saskatchewan — and that includes Saskatoon,” Mayor Cynthia Block said in a news release.

“Declaring Green and White Day is a way for us to show our pride, our excitement for the Labour Day Classic, and our part in Rider Nation as we look forward to hosting the team here in 2026.”
