The Sensex followed suit, advancing by 598 points to settle at 80,846, driven by strong performances in the financial and midcap sectors. The Midcap Index gained 508 points to reach 57,509, while the Nifty Bank rose 587 points, ending at 52,696
Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights: Adani Group stocks were among the top performers on the Nifty, with Adani Ports surging by 6% and Adani Enterprises adding 3%. The financial sector outshone others, while stocks like Reliance and ONGC posted gains of up to 2% following the removal of the windfall tax. Insurance stocks also rallied on speculation of a potential GST reduction on health insurance premiums, with Niva Bupa and Star Health climbing 10% and 4%, respectively.
ITC closed in the red but recovered from intraday lows as markets digested news surrounding GST-related developments. Cipla rebounded nearly 2% after reversing yesterday’s losses, while Torrent Power gained 5% following the launch of its ₹3,500 crore qualified institutional placement (QIP).
NTPC Green Energy witnessed strong buying interest, closing 10% higher. Ola Electric’s stock also rose by nearly 6%, marking gains in seven of the last eight sessions. PVR climbed 2% ahead of the anticipated release of Pushpa 2, nearing its day’s high.
