The Green Ship Award recognizes ships and shipowners that promote green and sustainable shipping practices. Yinson GreenTech’s Hydromover, developed in collaboration with the Goal Zero Consortium and supported by the Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) and Singapore Maritime Institute (SMI), was awarded for its contribution to the decarbonization of the maritime industry.

As Singapore’s first fully electric light cargo vessel, the ship aligns with MPA’s mandate for all new harbor craft operating in the Port of Singapore to be powered by electric, biofuel, or net-zero fuels by 2030.

Lim Chern Yuan, Group Chief Executive Officer of Yinson Holdings Berhad, stated that Yinsn GreenTech is committed to the energy transition journey. He emphasized the company’s goal to operationalize ESG principles across all its businesses, as demonstrated by the Hydromover initiative from Yinson GreenTech.

He also added that the fully electric cargo vessel highlights the company’s dedication to environmental stewardship and the economic benefits of adopting green technologies.

“The Hydromover has the potential to significantly decarbonise the maritime industry, particularly in cargo transportation. We are encouraged by the favourable response from regulators and industry leaders. Yinson GreenTech is dedicated to driving this decarbonisation journey by investing in innovative green technologies, integrating them into our solutions, and commercialising them,” said Eirik Barclay, Chief Executive Officer of Yinson GreenTech.

To remind, Yinson started commercial trials for Hydromover in September this year. Over the next few months, the vessel will be available to harbor craft operators in Singapore to trial charter the ship as part of their operational fleet of harbor crafts.

Launched in November 2023, the Hydromover is an 18.5-meter lightweight vessel featuring swappable batteries that enable it to transport up to 25 tonnes of cargo. As an all-electric ship, it produces zero emissions and aims to achieve operational cost savings of up to 50% through enhanced energy efficiency and reduced maintenance costs.

On June 25, 2024, Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS) and Yinson GreenTech completed the first cargo and crew deliveries using the Hydromover. This electric cargo delivery is said to signify the culmination of extensive planning and collaboration between Yinson and EPS and pave the way for the wider adoption of electric vessels.
